This is a toy. It is not a model or a real radio controlled craft of any kind. It is an inflatable balloon that you fill with helium. It flies by flapping its tail and setting a weight to point the shark nose down or nose up. It uses an infrared control which means you have to be in the same area as the shark. You cannot be in another room or behind something.
It is so simple to fly that anyone can do it. It hovers in mid air and moves even if you blow on it. And why not, it is a helium filled balloon. Do not fly it outside or it will fly away.
It is a lot of fun for any age, young and old.
It does require assembly and you must take your time and be patient when assembling it. I highly recommend going to the Air Swimmers website and watching the Instruction Video, it is clear and easy to follow. I had no problems assembling the Shark once I filled it with helium. I bought an inexpensive helium tank from Toys-r-Us and it worked just fine. The Shark is still floating after a week. Keep in mind this is an inexpensive toy that is not going to be up to any modeling standards. The fins stick on with double sided tape and so does the tail assembly (with rubber bands) and the sliding weight assembly. And if something comes off, just put it back on with some double sided tape or packing tape.
You balance the Shark with clay putty (supplied) so that it just hovers in mid-air, not going up or down. This also takes some patience as it takes a bit of trial and error by adding or removing some of the putty from the Sharks weight holder. And as time progresses, you will probably have to remove a little bit of the putty to keep it balanced. The Shark has been floating around in our family room for over a week and bumped into everything but it is so light that it doesn’t knock over anything. It has been flown about a dozen times still using the original batteries I installed.
This is great for kids as even when the Shark bumps into anything, it is so light that it makes no damage whatsoever. I don’t even think it could knock a Christmas card over. We have bought 4 of these so far and are giving 3 of them as gifts.
